A GVF Satellite Regulatory & Policy Initiative meeting – ‘Cost Effective Communications for Emerging Oil & Gas Markets’ – will address an issue of critical commercial importance to the oil & gas sector: What steps can be taken to address the regulatory conditions that prevent cost-effective access to communications, particularly in emerging oil & gas markets? The meeting will include leading representatives of the oil & gas industry, as well as service providers, consultants and legal experts in open-forum discussions, with the aim of establishing a consensus-based plan of action.

The ‘Introduction to Satellite Communications’ course is designed for professionals who are new to satellite communications, specifically sales, marketing and administration professionals who need a basic understanding of all aspects of satellite communications. This half-day course provides a basic foundation to the understanding of key fundamentals in the satellite communications business. The course is directed at non-technical professionals in the communications and information technology industries who require a basic grasp of this aspect of modern communications networking.
The course is delivered in five elements or parts:
(I)
Satellite technology: Historical background: Satellite launch and orbits; Satellite footprints; Frequency bands; Link Budgets; Satellite life expectancy.
(II)
Elements of the satellite network ‘ground segment’: including earth station parts, factors governing antenna sizes, differences between a major earth station and a VSAT, permissions required to operate a VSAT/earth station.
(III)
Applications of satellite communications: video broadcast, Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS), point-to-point and multipoint communications, Mesh and Star network topographies, together with an overview of the downsides of satellite communications.
(IV)
Key regulatory, licensing, and market liberalisation trends relevant to the satellite communications sector worldwide, including: regulatory and licensing reform and transparency, and the patterns of communications markets liberalisation in different regions of the world.
(V)
Specific key trends in the fields of the satellite communications marketplace and in the global deployment of satellite communications solutions. |
