O&G Networking Communications – Evolution of the Application & the Dynamics of Technology Trends
The objective of this roundtable session is to set-out, in the form of a convenient introductory brief, the current communications product and service environment as it strives to meet the efficiency and risk-management needs of the exploration, extraction, and refining segments of the oil & gas sector in Africa and the Middle East. Understanding the ongoing evolution of applications that are central to supporting the mission-critical networking requirements of these segments, together with a ready appreciation of the dynamics of current communications technology trends, is an essential foundation for the conference discussions to follow.

Bandwidth Dynamics: O&G Industry Demand, Telecoms Industry Supply – Analysis of Key Variables in the Price QOS Optimisation Nexus
Access to the Internet, and to bandwidth-hungry IP-based applications, increasingly forms the core of oil & gas industry communications requirements. But, despite growth in the deployment of communications technologies that are able to provide much-needed broadband access, end-users in key end-user vertical markets – such as the oil & gas sector – are calling-out for cheaper access through reduced bandwidth pricing. How can telecoms operators strive to meet this demand for ever greater cost-effectiveness, and should the objective of greater bandwidth value-for-money be achieved through improved optimization of a limited resource rather than fewer dollars and cents on the price tag? How can the telecoms service providers approach the need for the increased customization demanded by the oil & gas sector, and does more need to be done to achieve an improved understanding of buyer behaviour?
Mohamed Abdin, Senior Account Manager, Oil, Gas & Petroleum Sector, LINKdotNET
Andy Lucas, Vice President Product Management, Schlumberger Connectivity Services
Dr. Eng. Lotfy Sakr, Head of Development & Training, Nilesat

15:10 to 15:50: Roundtable Panel
Hybridising the O&G Communications Solution Offering over Satellite and Terrestrial
The variability of the physical conditions within which oil & gas resource exploitation occurs, together with the need to connect multiple sites – both inland and offshore – dictates that oil & gas companies buy wide area networking services which utilize wireline, terrestrial wireless, and satellite platforms. This session asks how the operators and service providers in these fields have moved, and continue to move, in the direction of providing multi-platform, multiple technology, hybrid solutions to meet the complex and extensive voice, data, and video applications needs of the oil & gas end-user.
Salah Mansour, General Manager Communications, Rashpetco
